Stephanie Rose, Founder & Director
Stephanie Rose, the founder and director of STEM Inquiry: Educating for Sustainability, is an Adjunct Professor in the Science Learning & Public Engagement program at the City College of New York, School of Education, focusing on climate, sustainability and the environment. Stephanie also serves as the faculty advisor for a capstone team of City College graduate students in the Master’s of Urban Sustainability Program, researching: New Ideas for Sustainability Improvements and Messaging on the City College of New York Campus. A faculty member of the CCNY-PSC Environmental Justice Working Group, Stephanie organizes and leads virtual programs about environmental justice and sustainability for the City College community, attended by over 200 students and faculty. STEM Inquiry Inc., is focused on helping institutions of higher education, as well as K-12 schools, adopt more sustainable practices, and rethink the sustainability messaging for their school communities. STEM Inquiry offers professional learning workshops to help schools, colleges, and universities meet these goals.
An experienced photojournalist, Stephanie worked for six years as a science staff developer in NYC Community School District # 3, helping teachers district-wide teach inquiry science, and use local parks and school gardens as outdoor learning labs. She's created over 10 gardens at NYC schools, and has over 15 years experience as a science coach leading professional learning programs for teachers. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Economics, Stephanie completed her Master’s in Education at Fordham University in 1994, and is a New York State Licensed Science Teacher of Biology and General Science.
